IKEA Rugs

Hooray! The weekend is upon us! I hope you have lots of fun things planned. I'm going to try and squeeze in a trip to IKEA. Check out these two great projects using super affordable IKEA rugs:

1) The Glamourai used one of those like $3 throw rugs to make a super chic long lumbar pillow. She just folded and whip-stitched up the side!

2) I love this stair runner DIY over at Loft and Cottage. Perfection with the nail head! And it's hard to go wrong with the neutral pattern in the Hessum rugs. If you want something more colorful (Dash and Albert style) this runner is so great-looking in person.

Two other tried and true IKEA rugs for me have been the black and white striped flat weave and the Tarnby jute (only wish it were larger and a little softer!)

What are your favorites? And have you ever used an IKEA rug to make something extra special?

Wow these really are great ideas! I saw the pillow and had no clue it was from the Ikea throw rug into you said something! Different twist on "Ikea hacks".

Great Idea! IKEA rugs are always such a reliable 'go to' for rug options.

I saw that first idea in Martha Stewart a while back. I remember buying a $3 rug for it but then I never stitched it up. Thanks for all of the beauty and inspiration!

I covered a storage cube with a red and white rug from IKEA last year and love it!

I have lots of those $3 throw rugs, but never thought of pillows..Duh! Thanks for sharing this! That sisal rug is the best quick fix for an update there is..especially layering another rug on top of it.
Have a great day!

That runner is fantastic. I'm in love with some black and white pillow covers they have - try to buy them everytime I'm there. They DO NOT GO with my decor. But eventually, I'll come home with them... future house?

IKEA hacks might just be some of my favorite DIY projects. I love seeing how people take often unassuming furniture and accessories and turn them into something completely fabulous. You've featured two great ones here!

Both are such great ideas! I love the stair runner and am also a big fan of Ikea rugs. They are affordable and stylish <3 can't wait to see what you get. I also saw a great blog post on a hand done chevron rug with their flat weave rug (which is like $40 bucks)

The runner looks great! The Hessum door mat, as well as the Trampa, are two of my Ikea faves.

I recovered a bench seat in the striped rug. Just cut off all the fringe and stapled. I love it!

We have the Tarnby in our living room. I agree it isn't he softest, especially for my sixth month old. The one other complaint I have is that it is dirty (big time dirty)! We had an entire layer of dirt from the rug on our wood floors. Gross!

I have been a huge fan of the Tarnby jute for a long time now, great as a layering rug to add texture. I actually posted the beginnings of a room on my blog www.estilodetigre.blogspot.com this morning, where I was thinking about using good old Tarnby!

love the use of the hessum runner on the stairs as well!

I'm looking for a runner for my kitchen, and of course I checked out IKEA. I didn't think any were particularly soft for bare feet. What's your experience? And how long do you think IKEA rugs last?

Wow, love when bargains look expansive. Great ideas.

I'm thinking of getting the black and white striped rug for my living room. I think the pattern might remain a little more current than a black and white chevron that I'm also considering.

I love the idea one of your readers had of recovering a bench in one of the small rugs. I'll have to add that to my shopping list!

That darn Stockholm Rand Rug from IKEA (the B/W stripe) has been eluding me for months. I even did a "crushing on" post about it.

Problem is ... it's never in stock at IKEA. I hope it comes back someday, as my living room desperately needs it!

I have a few of those super cheap throw rugs! I bought a bunch for our entry way so if they get really dirty I can just replace them. They have been holding up well though! I should make the extras into a pillow! Great idea.

Love the projects. I just finished a runner with floor mats from Marshals on the blog. What did you use to keep the Ikea runner in place besides the nail heads? I used a staple gun and then went over with nailhead trim.

You are so creative. On on the look out for pillows.

I went this weekend to grab some of the little rugs (we use them in our kitchen until they wear out, then replace) and they were nowhere to be found! So heartbreaking! I hope it was just a freak occurrence but I can't imagine why they wouldn't be there unless they discontinued them :(
